Pune: “It has been 43 months since Dr Narendra Dabholkar was murdered and 25 months have passed after the assassination of Govind Pansare. Till the police bring the murderers of Dr Dabholkar, Pansare and Prof Kulburgy to justice, we will continue to protest here on the 20th of every month,” said Adv Mukta Dabholkar, daughter of Late Dr Dabholkar.

She, along with members of Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS), Yuvak Kranti Dal (Yukrand), Swabhimani Sanghatana and Muslim Satyashodhak Samaj had gathered on March 20 at the Vitthal Ramji Shinde Bridge, to protest against the slack in the investigation of the murders.

Adv Dabholkar said, “The killers of these three rationalists, who were brutally assassinated, have not yet been arrested, even after so many years. Even those who were suspected to have a hand in these cases are free, out of jail, while we are patiently expected to wait for justice.”

Milind Deshmukh added, “Although the cases are being handled by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), it was local criminals who were involved in these murders, and if the CBI works with the local network of police and their informers, the investigation would go smoother and faster. Through our protests, we have succeeded in making the police put up the sketches of suspects at some public places and police stations, and we are sure we will be able to press our other demands about the investigation as well.”

MANS recently conducted an awareness activity across the State, to stop people from burning Puran Polis during Holi, and instead, distribute them among the poor.
