PYC ‘A’ emerges victorious

Pune: PYC ‘A’ outplayed PYC ‘C’ 24-8 to win the elite division finals of the Shashi Vaidya memorial Interclub tennis championships at PYC Gymkhana on Thursday.

PYC ‘A’ asserted their supremacy by annexing the title for the  sixth straight year. They had also lifted the MSLTA All Maharashtra Inter club championships for the year 2016-17 in Mumbai last month.

In the semi-finals, PYC ‘A’ scored a 24-8 win over PYC. Kedar Shah and Abhay Jamenis ousted Tanaya and Himanshu Gosavi 6-2 to start on bright not for PYC ‘A’.

Then in the 90+, Jayant Kadhe and Rutuparna Kulkarni came out strongly to get better of  Sunder Iyer and Yogesh Pantsachiv 6-2.

Paraj Natekar and Rutu Kulkarni also scored a 6-2 win over Himanshu Gosavi and Vijay Kurhade 6-2 while Abhishek Tamhane and Hanif Memon sealed the win with an identical win over Anup Minda and Amit Latey.  

Earlier, the tournament started with a condolence meet held for PMDTA President Arun Sane, who passed away recently.

The winners got Rs 40,000, while the runners-up got Rs 15,000 and trophies.
