Pune: Taking a serious view of a stalking incident, Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) YJ Tamboli  in Rajgurunagar  sentenced a 27-year-old accused to two years rigorous imprisonment. Notably, the case was heard in a record two days’ time.

Senior Police Inspector Santosh Girigosavi said that the accused, Atul Ganesh Patil worked as a security guard of the company where the complainant was working in the production unit in Chakan. The victim was frequently getting calls and messages from  different phone numbers and so she approached Chakan police and lodged a case of stalking on January 1.

The accused was sending ‘I Like you and I love you’ messages on the victim’s phone. On investigating the case, Police Sub Inspector Mahesh Munde found that Patil had taken the mobile number of the  22-year-old victim from an entry register of the company. Later, the police found that it was Patil who was troubling the victim. “The girl had blocked Patil’s number but after that he started bothering her from different numbers. The girl is a graduate,” added Munde. The police then arrested the accused on January 9 and the judgment was passed on January 11. Public Prosecutor Raju Tadvi argued on behalf of the police.
