Pune: The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is organising Sinhgad Fort Cyclothon on Sunday, February 5 to promote responsible tourism and adventure tourism.

“This will be the second edition of the cycling race on Sinhgad fort covering a distance of 9-km,” said Vaishali Chavan, Regional Manager of MTDC, Pune Region.

There was lukewarm response to the event in its first year, as the interested participants found it difficult to pay entry fee in cash.

“To travel to our office and pay entry fee in cash dissuaded the possible participants, so this time we decided to go online,” said Chavan.

The competition will be held in two categories-men and women-with the winners from each category getting Rs 10,000 as prize.

The runners-up will get Rs 7,000 and third place finisher Rs 5,000.

While the participants are expected to bring in their own cycles, the MTDC has also made arrangements for rent-a-cycle for those who do not have mountain bikes.

“We have tied up with city-based mountaineering orgnanisation Giripremi, who will be providing their volunteers for any help on the route.

Interested persons and institutions can log on to www.maharashtratourism.gov.in and do online registration and also pay the entry fee of Rs 500.
