Stand-up comedian-turned-actor Kanan Gill, who was in the city recently, talks about his debut film, Noor and his co-stars.

Popular stand-up comedian and YouTuber, Kanan Gill is making his Bollywood debut with Sonakshi Sinha-starrer Noor, which releases today. The film is based on Pakistani author Saba Imtiaz’s novel, Karachi, You’re Killing Me!. The film directed Sunhil Sippy, also stars Purab Kohli and Shibani Dandekar.

Kanan, who plays the role of Shaad (Noor’s friend) said while promoting the film that there is some Kanan in Shaad.
“Lot of things are similar. Like Shaad is a funny guy, which I too am, in personal life. He is someone who makes fun of friends, so that there are no boring moments. The reason the character spoke to me so much is because I could relate to it on a personal level.”

When asked to describe his Bollywood debut, Kanan called it ‘crazy’. “It was lots of work. It was unlike anything I have done before, so it has been my biggest learning experience. A lot more to learn,” he added.

The debutant actor has several good things to talk about his co-stars. He said, “Everybody was super humble and down-to-earth. It was Sonakshi who had recommended my name for the role. So it was easy going from the first day. Purab is very chilled out and Shibani turned out to be my neighbour, which I didn’t know earlier. We grew really close during the making of the film. So the whole process was very relaxed.”

And was he eyeing Bollywood for some time now? To which he replied, “Not really. My funda in life has been ‘if something exciting comes my way, I will give it a try’. Getting into Bollywood wasn’t a dream but I gave it a try because I found it interesting.”

With his character receiving positive response since the trailer has released, do we see him aggressively pursuing his career in Bollywood?

“It has never worked for me like that. If I simply set my goals, it never happens; but if I focus on something and pursue it, it works out,” said Kanan, who is waiting for Noor’s release before taking a call on his next big screen outing.
