Pune: Defending champion Cognizant rode on to the swashbuckling batting display by Rajiv and Preetam Sahu to register their first win when they beat HSBC by 71 runs in the Group ‘C’ league in the FLAME University Corporate Cricket T20 League 2017 managed by Triumph Events at FLAME University Campus in Lavale, on Sunday.

In the second match, KPIT outscored TCS to register four-wicket win in Group ‘D’ league thanks to opener Aloke Nagraj’s  46 runs.

After facing a reverse in the league opener, Cognizant came out all guns blazing in their second league match with opener Rajiv holding on to one end and ticking the scoreboard with his ones and twos.

Rajiv and his opening partner Aaditya added 60 runs for the first wicket before HSBC’s Sanjay caught Aaditya out on his own bowling. Aaditya’s stay at the wicket lasted almost nine overs before he was out for 31 off 35 balls with 3 fours and 1 six.

One down Preetam Sahu joined Rajiv in the middle and went hammer and tongs scoring 54 runs off just 29 balls that included 5 fours and 3 sixes. Rajiv remained unbeaten on 52 (44b, 1x4, 1x6) as Cognizant posted 180 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.

HSBC struggled to settle in their chase of huge target as they lost wickets at regular intervals. They were reduced to 27 for four with Rahul Bhat, Ayush Awasthi and Vaibhav snapping wickets. Opener Sanjay was out after scoring 14 runs and middle order bat Dhawal somewhat stood his ground but was out after scoring 27 in his 18-ball stay that included 2 fours and 1 six.
