MUMBAI: Tulsi lake, which is among the lakes that supply drinking water to Mumbai, has started overflowing following heavy rains on Sunday and Monday.

Last week, Powai lake had started overflowing. However, this lake provides water only for industrial use.

Tulsi, which is located in the densely-forested Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali, started overflowing at noon, officials of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) said. Last year, the lake had started overflowing on July 12.

Lakes that supply drinking water to Mumbai include Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Vihar and Tulsi.

Building collapses in Bhiwandi; no injuries

A three-storey vacant building collapsed in Bhiwandi in Thane district on Monday after heavy rains lashed inundated and cut off several low-lying areas.

According to Chief of Thane District Disaster Control, Jaideep Visawe, the building came crashing down around 4 am in the Padma Nagar locality.

There was no loss of life as 75 people residing in the building had been evacuated recently, he said.

A portion of the building had come down a couple of days ago following which fire officials evacuated the occupants.
