Mumbai: Keeping up the pressure on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led State government, Shiv Sena MLAs met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday after adjournment of the the Assembly over loan waiver for farmers.

Chief Minister Fadnavis promised a loan waiver for farmers after getting financial aid from the Central government.

He assured Shiv Sena Members of Legislative Assembly s that he will help them meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for getting financial aid from the Central government.

In Maharashtra, farmers have been suffering over the past few years owing to an agrarian crisis caused by drought and unseasonal rain. The Shiv Sena is demanding loan waiver for the farmers and on those grounds they are not allowing the State Assembly to function for over one week.

On Wednesday, the Shiv Sena again disrupted the House and demanded loan waiver for the farmers. Finally Speaker Haribhau Bagade adjourned the House for the day. Shiv Sena MLAs has met Fadnavis over the same issue.

After the meeting with the Chief Minister, the Members of Legislative Assembly’s met Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. He directed the MLAs to be aggressive over the demand. The farmers’ loan should be waived off and the MLAs have to be firm about the demand, he insisted in the meeting with his party’s Members of Legislative Assembly’s.
The Shiv Sena has been supporting the opposition’s demand for farm loan waiver in the State, while the BJP has consistently maintained that this is not the solution. Instead, it has undertaken steps such as reorganising farmers’ loans, improving soil moisture and so on for a more permanent solution.
