Mumbai: The war of allegations between Shiv Sena and BJP reached another high after Shiv Sena trained guns on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying he was involved in corruption in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), when he was mayor of Nagpur.

Shiv Sena has directly levelled allegations against the CM, who is said to have a clean image. Shiv Sena wants to malign Fadnavis’s public image.

The Shiv Sena alleged that when Fadnavis was mayor of Nagpur, he was behind various scams occurring in NMC.

Shiv Sena MLA Anil Parab on Wednesday alleged that BJP wants transparency in BMC and for that, they are alleging Shiv Sena is responsible for corruption in BMC. “The State government has appointed a committee to probe into the corruption in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) headed by ex-IAS officer Nandlal. The committee submitted a report on the corruption in NMC. CM Fadnavis was mayor of the NMC at that time,” said Parab.

The committee has pointed that the Standing Committee members of NMC had a nexus with the contractors and awarded contracts to the contractors without inviting tenders. “After submitting the report, criminal cases were lodged against the NMC corporators. The committee also pointed out that the mayor is responsible for the irregularities and also recommended registration of a case against him,” said Parab.

“The corruption and financial mismanagement occurred during the mayorship of Rajeev Ghollar, Kalpana Pande, Vasundhara Masurkar and Devendra Fadnavis. During these 15 months, not a single general meeting was conducted in the NMC,” he alleged.

“In Mumbai, the State government appointed a special investigation team (SIT), but not a single Shiv Sena leader has been mentioned in the report by name,” he added.

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has alleged continuously that the Shiv Sena started a “mafia raj” in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Shiv Sena’s leaders laundered money through a web of shell companies. Somaiya listed seven companies and also challenged Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to make all his financial transactions public.

The Shiv Sena also alleged that BJP MP Kirit Somaiya has links with the infamous National Stock Exchange Limited (NSEL) scam and that he “pressurized” the Prime Minister’s Office to stop an inquiry against him.

Sena MP Rahul Shewale alleged, “Somaiya has links with NSEL scam and he brought pressure on Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).”

Meanwhile, Somaiya has dismissed the allegations saying it is a ‘diversionary tactic’ of Shiv Sena.
