Pune: Over 3,500 mandals started their immersion process this morning to bid farewell to the city's beloved lord Ganesh and mark the conclusion on the 10th day today on Ananth Chaturdashi.

The immersion procession with the first Manacha Ganpati Kasb Ganpati commenced from Tilak statue in Mandai at 9.30 in the morning. The procession moved towards their final destination, appealing to their diety to come soon next year.

Streets wore a colourful look as chariots adorned with flowers were part of various processions.

The five Manache Ganpati of Pune - Kasba, Tambdi-Jogeshwari, Guruji-Talim, Tulshibaugh and Kesriwada led the way for other big and small mandals.

Dagdusheth Ganpati will start its procession late in the evening.

The streets were brimming with enthusiasm as chariots adorned with flowers and festoons and energetic youth playing dhol-tashaq bid a memorable adieu to the deity.

Meanwhile, six teams of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) were stationed in various places in the city.

A total of about 10,000 police personnel and officers and 4,000 college students who are trained as volunteers were part of the security detail dispatched for the day.
