The last drink before going off to sleep plays a very vital role in maintaining your body weight and health. Your sleep and body weight pattern, acidity to passing motion the next day, has lot of do with our last intake of drink.

City-based nutritionist, Srija Roy says that the drinking pattern varies from person to person. “In fact it’s an psychological thing. People have been consuming their preferred drinks for years without knowing the advantages or disadvantages,” she says, adding, “Some people drink coffee or fruit juice without knowing the effects it will have on their body. A patient of mine used to have Amla juice (Indian gooseberry) before going to sleep. When he approached me, I explained to him that it’s because of the amla juice he was having the acidity problem. When he stopped drinking it, the problem got solved.”

Roy says that one should consult a nutritionist before deciding on what to drink and eat. “Some people consume fruits and a glass of milk for dinner which is not recommended for middle-aged people. Both the items take a longer time to digest. Some people are able to digest fruits easily, while some cannot,” she points out, adding, “People drink coffee to keep themselves awake. But BP patients should avoid it because it contains potassium. On the other hand, those suffering from cramping can drink coffee. There are both negative and positive effects of the drink.”
