MUMBAI: Congress leader and former chief minister Narayan Rane’s Ahmedabad visit fuelled speculation about Rane joining the BJP. However, Rane refuted the speculations. The denial came in wake of television channels showing visuals of both Rane and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis travelling in the same vehicle on their way to BJP President Amit Shah’s residence in Ahmedabad on Wednesday night.

Rane’s son, MLA Nitesh Rane, said there was no ‘political agenda’ to his father’s Ahmedabad visit. Nitesh said he and his father were in Ahmedabad to buy equipment for their new medical college to be set up in Kudal, Sindhudurg. “We have nothing to hide. The Ahmedabad visit was not political. It was a mere coincidence that Fadnavis was in the city,” said Nitesh Rane.

Rane’s entry in BJP will be beneficial for the party and is part of the strategy mooted by Fadnavis to strengthen the BJP’s Maratha base for the next election.Rane has planned to inaugurate his new medical college in Kudal on May 1.

According to sources, the inauguration will be done by BJP President Amit Shah and the announcement of Rane joining BJP will be on the day or earlier. Rane is claiming that he was in Ahmedabad for purchasing of some medical equipment for his new medical college at Kudal.

“There is always an offer from other parties to me and the BJP offered me to join it several times, but I haven’t decided yet. When I take such a decision, I will speak out about it I am not scared of anybody,” Narayan Rane said. When asked about the channel report, he said that there is something wrong in the clipping. The clothes which I and CM Fadnavis wore are not matching with the other clipping, as it is not true,” he claimed.
