Pune:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Anil Shirole won the prestigious Pune Lok Sabha seat by a mammoth margin of 3.15 lakh votes.

This is the highest victory margin of any candidate from Pune. The previous best was in 1984 when VN Gadgil of Congress defeated Jagannath Joshi of BJP by a margin of 1.99 lakh votes.

In the last general elections, Shirole was defeated by the then Congress candidate Suresh Kalmadi. He defeated Congress' Vishwajeet Kadam, who garnered 2,54,056 votes.

The BJP has wrested the Pune seat from Congress after a gap of 15 years. In 1999, BJP candidate Pradeep Rawat had won this seat.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena candidate Deepak Paigude finished third with 93,502 votes.

It is learnt that Narendra Modi wave aided Shirole's victory in the Pune constituency.
