Pune: As railway stations in and around Pune get a new look, Pimpri railway station is being loved by travellers, as it has not just become cleaner, but also beautiful due to paintings on the walls.

Rajendra Gupta, Station Manager, Pimpri said, “The whole work is being done by the Railway Ministry, along with funding from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). For Pimpri, the CSR has been offered by thyssenkrupp Industries.” Two new toilets, drinking water points, paintings, roof changing, LED lights and solar power are the additions that are going on at the Pimpri railway station.

The paintings have been done by a group called Vanrsena, that also involved the public in painting on February 26. The paintings are of hockey, musical instruments, cinema, animals, go green, marine life, e-waste and railway safety.

RS Nageshkar, Sr Vice President and Head of Personnel and HRD, thyssenkrupp Industries India Private Limited said, “We want to change the way people look at the Railways and make it like the ones in foreign countries. Around 14,000 people use the Pimpri railway station and we want to make the travel experience better.”

The company is spending Rs one crore in the first phase. The second phase will start soon that will include escalators. The company will take care of the maintenance of the toilets and other infrastructure. Nikhil Desai, from thyssenkrupp, also said that two vacuum machines will  be purchased and used at the station.

Pushpa Kalal, a traveller who uses the station once in a month to go from Pimpri to Kalyan said, “The station is surely much cleaner now and when the train is late, the paintings are good to look at.”
