MUMBAI: Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale posed 18 questions to BJP MP Kirit Somaiya about his involvement in mutual fund transactions and alleged price rigging operations, which have led to scams to the tune of thousands of crore of rupees. He also challenged the BJP to initiate probe against Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s assets.

Shewlale got the information against Somaiya through Shekhar Vaishnav, former colleague of Somaiya and a chartered accountant. Now, Shewale is using Vaishnav as a weapon against Somaiya to counter allegations of financial malpractices levelled against Shiv Sena chief Thackeray.

Vaishnav said that he worked with Somaiya at the Investors Grievances Forum from 1996 to 2000. He used to get reports of scams, and was asked to file complaint with SEBI and by next day, he was told to go slow on complaints.  “Out of the 10 issues that were brought forward, seven never went to SEBI and settlements happened even before the matter went to SEBI through channels,” said Vaishnav.

“Kirit Somaiya is involved in price rigging of a number of shares of travel and pharmaceutical companies. He is instrumental in diverting over Rs 5,000 crore towards his party every year through irregularities in the financial market,” said Vaishnav.

He raised a question on Somaiya’s proximity with NSEL scam accused Ketan Parekh. The questionnaire posed at Somaiya deals with questions ranging from his role in Enam-Axis Bank deal to an alleged money laundering possibility at a ‘reputed’ travel company portal.

Sena MP Rahul Shewale challenged the BJP to prove a single corruption case against Sena. “Why doesn’t he ask his party chief Amit Shah to make his property public?” Shewale asked.

“Targeting Shiv Sena chief for the sake of votes is extremely unfortunate. BJP has a government in the State and Centre. It can easily find out the property of Thackeray if they want to. We challenge them to do so,” he said.
