With the Nokia 3310 set to be relaunched, we ask users about their memories of the sturdy phone and more.

Circa 2000. People were still getting acquainted to the world of mobile phones. And there came Nokia 3310. In a matter of a few days, it reached almost every household. For many, it was their very first cell phone. In those days, people didn’t change their handsets as frequently, so it was their cherished possession for quite some time. Reliable, resilient, indestructible — people would shower all these adjectives on it.

Now that the 3310 is making a comeback soon, it will be nostalgia for people who swear by the phone known for its simple design and the long life of its battery.

Nokia’s parent company, HMD Global plans to launch the iconic model at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
We caught up with people who are excited and looking forward to the development and asked them about their memories of the phone — Will it work in the age of smartphones? What models of Nokia would they want relaunched?

For Mayur Karanjkar, a student, his first phone was Nokia 3310. “It is like going down memory lane. The phone was the best thing in the early 2000s. So like all first things, it is special. In the age of smartphones, if they add some basic smart features, I will be using it for sure. There were other Nokia models too which were a hit during those days. Nokia should revive the N Series and also the Communicator series. I am sure there are a lot of people out there waiting for the same,” Karanjkar says.

For Prita Yadav, a BPO professional, once launched, the 3310 will be her second phone for sure. “It was a sturdy and durable phone. It is really user-friendly and can be used by people in any age group, especially parents of toddlers as the latter have the tendency of throwing away everything on the ground. I prefer to use a basic phone apart from my smart phone because of the long battery life and the 3310 will fit in just right. So I am looking forward to buying it,” Yadav says.

Nikhil Nikam, an entrepreneur has special memories of the phone. “Using the ringtone composer where we used to look for codes online and create new ringtones was something I loved to do. It will remain my special memory of the 3310. Having said that, I do not think that I will ever replace my current phone with any other phone, so I will not be going in for the 3310,” Nikam says. When quizzed about the Nokia models which he wants relaunched, Nikam was quick to answer that it should be the Ngage series.

Rohan Iyer, an entrepreneur is looking forward to the relaunch. “After so many years, it will be really good to own a phone with which you can just call or sms. The battery will last for days. For many, this is going to be the add-on phone. Since old is definitely gold, the 3310 will surely have its share of buyers. I am curious to know how it will be priced in the Indian market. Also I would love if Nokia relaunched the Communicator series and also the 6600,” he says.
