Sibal calls demonetisation an RBI and BJP scam

Mumbai: Slamming the Centre for its demonetisation decision, Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Saturday said it was not a battle against black money, but it was a conspiracy for black money. The decision of demonetisation should be probed and the government should appoint a judicial committee to investigate it, he demanded.

“Though the government said it was a fight against black money, how has Rs 14.97 lakh crore of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 bank notes out of Rs 15.15 lakh crore been deposited in banks,” he asked. Through the decision, all the black money came into the banking system and it was a conspiracy. It might be Reserve Bank of India (RBI) or the BJP involved in the conspiracy,” he alleged.

“It’s a big scam where the black money has been changed by charging 30 per cent commission by some anti-social elements. The person who had black money got the same money after the transaction,” Sibal said.

He further said that the government should focus on those ‘handful billionaires’ who have their black money saved in international lockers instead of troubling millions of common people.

Sibal claimed that the decision was taken in RBI’s meeting, which only eight directors out of 21 attended, and these eight members were government members and no single private or independent director was present at the meeting.
“It is a dictatorship and the government is taking a decision like Mohammad Bin Tughlaq,” he said.

“The Rs 2,000 currency note has been spotted with BJP leaders and the party has not sacked or suspended any person associated with the notes. Is this a democracy,” he demanded.

“BJP is saying cashless but were the expenses of BJP meetings paid by cheque earlier,” he asked. Due to demonetisation, people became jobless, industry is facing a major setback. Big units are closing. It is very dangerous. The citizens of India will give their reply to the government in the election,” he warned.
