PUNE:
Shikshan Hakka Manch Pune organised a ‘Bomba-Maaro’ protest, on Monday, in front of the Deputy Director of Education, Pune Region’s Office. While agitations against fee hike and capitation charges in schools are going on in full swing, the Manch is protesting against the schools’ callous attitude towards following the set procedure under Fee Act while fixing the fee amount.

Speaking about the slogan shouting agitation, Matin Mujavar, President, Shikshan Hakka Manch, said, “Everybody today is protesting against the fee hike. However, nobody is aware that in order to decide the fee structure and amount, each school needs to have a registered parents-teachers association, which needs to be taken into confidence before deciding the school fees. No school in the city is following this procedure, and even the government isn’t doing anything about it.”

He further stated that the Manch had complained to the Deputy Director of Education several times regarding fee hike issue and capitation charges levied by several schools in the city. “Whenever the parents were harassed for fees or made to buy all the academic material unnecessarily from a particular shop only by any school, we have protested against it and registered complaints. But we have never received a positive response from anybody,” he added.

Minakshi Raut, Assistant Director of Education, Pune Region, spoke to the protesters. Ramesh Dharmavat of Shikshan Hakka Manch said that Raut gave an assurance that notices will be sent to all the schools that have not registered their parents-teachers associations with the department.

When contacted, Raut told Sakal Times, “Whenever there have been protests about the fee hike issue, we have always supported the associations or the parents involved, and taken necessary action about the same. The issue Shikshan Hakka Manch is protesting against is a similar one, and we will look into the matter and try to help them.”
