PUNE: Although the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) introduced a water cut and alternate day water supply from Monday, the civic body is yet to curb the wastage, theft and misuse of water.

The Water Supply Department has prepared a detailed plan for supplying alternate day water to the city, but before that, it needs to form flying squads to catch the misuse of drinking water and take action against violators.

On the very fist day of the water cut, several vehicle washing centres and construction sites were operational and the PMC failed to clamp down on water wastage.

When asked about the action taken against the violators, Superintending Engineer (Water Supply) Madan Adhari said that the PMC is still involved in setting up the alternate day water supply and it will need a couple of days more to streamline the process and set up a water supply schedule.

“Our first priority now is to set up a water supply schedule and staffers have already been instructed to identify and inspect sources of water wastage. As of now, we are taking action against water leakage complaints and in the next few days, the water supply staff will make sure that there is no water theft and misuse of water,” Adhari told reporters.

Adhari also said that the inspectors attached to regional ward offices will be taking action against misuse of water and ensure that each part of the city gets water as per the schedule.
