Mumbai: The mayor for the 152-member Pune Municipal Corporation, which goes to polls on February 21, will be from general category, while mayor for Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will be from OBC category.

The lottery for reservation for the mayoral posts in 27 municipal corporations was announced in Mantralaya on Friday. A draw of lots to decide reservations for the mayors’ posts in the 27 municipal corporations was held in Mumbai. In the draw, mayors of 16 corporations have been reserved for general category, 7 corporations have been reserved for OBC, 3 reserved for Scheduled Caste and one for Scheduled Tribe. The mayoral posts of 14 corporations are reserved for women in these categories. Pune, Mumbai, Latur, Dhule, Malegaon, Akola, Vasai-Virar, Bhiwandi and Ahmednagar will have mayors from general category this time.

The post of mayor will be reserved for women in 14 of the 27 total municipal corporations in Maharashtra. Of the reserved posts, two will be for scheduled castes, four for OBCs and eight for women from open category.

Of the 13 general category mayor posts, one post each will be reserved for SC and ST, three for OBCs and eight will be unreserved.

Nashik Municipal Corporation mayor’s post will be reserved for Scheduled Tribes and Amravati mayor’s post will be reserved for Scheduled Castes.

Meanwhile, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Solapur, Parbhani, Kolhapur, Kalyan-Dombivali and Ulhasnagar will have women mayors from general category. Nanded and Panvel will have women mayors from SC category.

Mira Bhayandar, Jalgaon, Sangli and Chandrapur will have women mayors from OBC category.
