Jobless youth assaults and robs grandmother

PUNE: Officials of the Chatushringi police have arrested a 26-year-old youth on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting and robbing his own grandmother of Rs 70,000. According to information given by the Chatushringi police, the accused Pravin Dongre stays with his family in his grandmother’s flat in Gokhalenagar area.

Pravin told police that he works as a contractor but police officials said that he is currently jobless. On February 12, the accused youth entered his house along with three other persons and started assaulting his grandmother Taglu Dongre (66).

Pravin then took Rs 70,000 which belonged to his grandmother and then fled from the spot.

Police sub-inspector Vijay Koli who is investigating the case said that Pravin is been charged under section 394 (Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and other sections of the Indian Penal code.

“The accused stays with his grandmother and wife in the house. He was produced in Shivajinagar court on Thursday and sent to police custody till February 18,” added Koli.

Chatushringi police said that the accused has had an eye on his grandmother’s savings and so he assaulted her following which Taglu approached Chatushringi and lodged a case. Chatushringi police are further investigating the case.
