PUNE: With a certificate course in European Union (EU) Legal Studies, the Symbiosis Centre for International Education is set to start activities at the EU Study Centre.

The centre will offer courses that may give European context to the students’ area of learning and thus enhance their employability in the European countries.

Symbiosis International is the only deemed university in the state to have EU Study Centre. EU promotes such centres as they help in bilateral relations beyond trade and economic cooperation.

Symbiosis is in the process of developing certificate courses related to EU laws, economic integration, cultural studies, business, media studies, philosophy and literature, said principal director of Symbiosis Vidya Yeravdekar in a press conference on Saturday.

The first course offered by this centre on the European Union Legal Studies will be formally inaugurated by the union law minister Veerappa Moily at Symbiosis Law School on Sunday.

This course will be expanded into a full-fledged Masters course soon, said principal of Law School Dr Shashikala Gurpur. Legal experts from the European countries will deliver lectures in this course, she added.

The EU study centre will also start courses in official EU languages as language proficiency is an important tool to enhance employability in the Europe countries, said Officer-in-Charge, International Office of Symbiosis, Aashima Agashe.
